John Player and Sons Cigarette Cards, “Past and Present” series, 1916.

From the series “Past and Present” c.1916. Incomplete set of 25.

Player’s were one of the first UK tobacco companies to include sets of general interest cards in their packs of cigarettes. These cards were generally produced in sets of 25 to 50 and have since become highly collectable. John Player & Sons issued more than 200 sets of cards.

Rutland Barrington, an actor and producer, well known for his roles in Gilbert and Sullivan operas. The Barrington is my favourite in the collection being by far the most vibrant!
